[Release] Late last year, Miguel Campbell burst onto the scene with his massively successful Hot Creations debut EP, Baby I Got It. While the title track was a huge hit, it was B-side,”Something Special,” that turned out to be the star. A special blend of house and disco, it went on to become the highest selling track of the year on Beatport. Now, almost exactly a year later, Campbell returns to the Hot Creations camp with his latest EP, Rockin Beats.

Campbell comes in hot and heavy with the title track, “Rockin Beats.” Definitely different than his usual style, he channels a Daft Punk style with vocoder vocals from another Leeds musician, rapper Naroe. Hard-hitting, old-school hip-hop drums and a minimal bass line chug the song along while “zappy synths” add a funk flavor to the whole production.

Dirtybird favorite Shadow Child jumps right in with his remix for “Rockin Beats.” A mellower, more groove-laden take on the track, Shadow Child focuses his attention more on the bouncy percussion and melodic keys while still making good use of the standout vocals.

For the B-side, “Not That Kind Of Girl,” Campbell returns to his roots. With funky synths, disco drums, and warm feminine vocals provided by Becks Lott, “Girl” is sure to burn up the dance floors in the coming months. Going under their MAM alias, the producer teams up with Matt Hughes for the remix. Taking the focus away from the vocals, the duo let the music shine through, particularly the grumbling, deep bass line.

Not That Kind of Girl is a fun, funky record that showcases a wide spectrum of the musical styles that Campbell is capable of. Hopefully, this is a small sampling of what we can expect from his forthcoming album, Back in Flight School.
