[New Release] Maceo Plex – Frisky EP (Crosstown Rebels)

[New Release] Just in time for spring mating season. “Title track ‘Frisky’ has all the flair of a Maceo floor burner, destined to warm bodies as the night draws in and set the mood for fun and friskiness. With a sprinkling of classic Maceo dust over the mid-tempo chugging groove, the bassline rumbles below that well renowned funk and there’s no doubt Maceo’s reign over slinky hypnotic house is set to continue.

Continuing in the smokey house vein but lifting the tempo for the later crowd, ‘Sex Appeal’ is another ode to the fairer members of the species and injects a little romance into the more bumping slice of Maceo gold on offer here. A dose of acid and a breakdown and slow build of shooting synths until the melodic bassline drop is sure to raise the roof.”
Crosstown Rebels does it again. Get familiar with this one lovers, it will inevitably be fueling you the through many ‘frisky’ spring and summer nights on the horizon.

[New Mix] Maetrik – Live at Cocoon Ibiza

[New Mix] Eric Estornell, whether as Maetrik or Maceo Plex, was one of the most lauded artists in house and techno in 2011 and this superb live set as Maetrik for Cocoonʼs Ibiza season provides the perfect encapsulation of why.

Transferring the thrill of a live event into a club night is a difficult task but once Sven Väth and the Cocoon crew heard Maetrikʼs live set at their closing party at Amnesia they new that they had something special on their hands and releasing it as a CD became a must, particularly considering Estornellʼs previous outstanding contributions to the Cocoon catalogue, ʻSnorkelʼ and ʻCrush on Meʼ.

The resulting live CD reflects the matchless mixture of pumping deep house, electronic soul and adrenaline-enriched noise that Maetrik has already presented on renowned labels like Treibstoff, Dumb Unit and Audiomatique. Four unreleased tracks (which will get a full release themselves), a couple of remixes (Silicone Soul, Popof) and some of Maetrikʼs finest work is effortlessly put together throughout the 10 track live set. Estronellʼs distinctive, hallucinogenic vocals and gleaming productions illuminated Amnesiaʼs vast space when the set was recorded and every bit of the energy, originality and excitement is captured.

Beginning of the set with incredibly apt vocal refrain, ʻTime Unlimited, Time Undefinedʼ, The Valencia-based Texan provides an hour of the sort of pure escapism that Cocoon is all about.
