[Forthcoming Release] Funky Fat & Digitaria – Masochist EP (Hot Creations 5/7)

[Forthcoming Release] Living in a desert, summer is never a season that one looks forward to. 90 degree weather by eight in the morning, 120 by noon, humidity you could cut with a knife, and an overall uncomfortable aura; it’s not exactly the best four months of the year. But with every new summertime track that gets released, I find myself getting more and more excited for it. So it seems fitting that the new EP from Funky Fat & Digitaria would be titled Masochist (Hot Creations). The four track record is chock full of summertime anthems that are guaranteed to have any party goer smiling through the suffering.

Indie tinged title dance track ‘Masochist’ delivers funky bass lines and a bold, distinct female vocal while the airy Digitaria remix of their own ‘Paradise’ switches it up, making it so you can almost feel the breeze and sunshine on your face. Funky Fat & Digitaria come together for B-side ‘You Bring Me Down,’ an ironic title, considering the bounciness of the track is sure to do anything but. Masochist finishes with ‘Crazy Life’, an uptempo deep house cut with more of the alluring female vocals that are featured throughout the record.

A perfect set of tracks to kick off your summer parties, Masochist is available May 7.

[Forthcoming Release] Cera Alba – Save The Day EP (Turquoise Blue 6/4)

[Forthcoming Release] British producer and Hot Creations rising star, Cera Alba, drops a couple previews for his next project. The EP, entitled Save The Day (Turquoise Blue), consists of a couple original tracks with remixes courtesy of Droog vs Inxec and Julien Sandre.

The title track for Save The Day is classic deep house. The constant echo throughout the song, both from the music and the vocals, really open it up, giving it a large, empty warehouse feel. The listener really starts to get lost in the music until the perfectly lowered pitch Whitney Houston sample kicks in as a reminder that this is indeed a track to be danced to.

Zeno of Elea, an ancient Greek philosopher, devised a set of philosophical paradoxes in defense of the belief that “all is one” and everything is an illusion. These paradoxes were dubbed “Zeno’s Paradoxes”, and Alba could not have chosen a better title for the second track on Save The Day. Musically, “Zeno’s Paradoxes” keeps it pretty simple. Basically a blend of drums and a few FX, the main focus of the track is the vocal narration. A man’s run in with a mind-altering substance sends him on an exploration of his self and the listener has the privilege of joining him on the journey. Quite the opposite of the the first track, this is definitely one for the end of the night.

“Zeno’s Paradox” is the only track to get remixed. As strange as it is, it’s hard to imagine what Droog vs Inxecs and Julian Sandre’s re-imagining of it will sound like. But it’s no doubt that they won’t disappoint. This EP is one to look forward to.

[Forthcoming Release] M A N I K – I Got Us EP (OVUM 5/18)

[Forthcoming Release] New York City DJ and producer M A N I K presents us with his first solo record of the year, I Got Us. Having already released previous work with labels such as Culprit and Hot Creations, M A N I K brings his genre-defying style to Ovum Recordings for this wonderful summertime cut.

With a delightfully danceable bassline that still keeps it deep, and hypnotic vocals sung by M A N I K himself, I Got Us would be a perfect addition to any set, from daytime pool party to nighttime sweatbox.

Though a preview has been released for only the title track, there’s no doubt that the young producer has something just as good in store for the other two tracks set to be on the EP. And with one of them being called ‘Weekend Is 4 Lovers,’ it’s hard to believe otherwise.

I Got Us drops May 18.

[Forthcoming Release] Alexis Raphael – Into The Light (Hot Creations)

[Forthcoming Release] Hailed in the UK as “a true aficionado of the house scene, Alexis Raphael has been bubbling underground for the past 12 months, fusing funk, soul and sultry vocals with an emblematic club aesthetic. ‘Into The Light’ has been tantalizing Hot Natured followers since it first entered the sets of Jamie Jones and Lee Foss in the summer of 2011. Restrained and stripped back to the bassline, the moody groove is spliced with vocal snippets and enveloped by shards of eerie FX and murky synth stabs, all leading up to a massive crowd-moving drop and intensified sexy female vocal.” A new spring on the rise and finally available for the masses, this EP is set to become a staple.
