[News] Heidi Launches Jackathon Label

[News] The infamous badass blonde babe Heidi is set to launch her new label The Jackathon next week on May 14th under the parent label Get Physical Music. The Jackathon first began in 2009 as a party series Heidi would take with her around the world, evolved to a mix CD series in 2011, and has now in 2012 come to fruition to manifest its essence and energy in what will inevitably be one of the most bangin labels. Heidi is a woman after my own heart, a true lover with an open mind.

In an interview with Resident Advisor she shares that her inspiration behind The Jackathon was to bring more of a family vibe to the table.“I’m really open to anything as I like so many different styles of music…Many people don’t know but the word ‘jacking’ is a dance move, a feeling to move your body in a certain way, pertaining to the music that was coming out in Chicago at a certain moment in dance music history. For me it definitely has to be about the artist and if I connect with them on a personal level. That makes such a difference to me…All of my parties have been real moments for me because the people who agree to come and play really get stuck in and enjoy the night to the fullest…It’s about connecting the dots between different genres of music. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside after we do these parties and everyone always leaves with a sweaty smile on their face and usually a massive hangover. The tell tale signs of good night.”*

“I asked 16 artists that I admire to make an exclusive track for me as a little gift to the people who have supported what I do – some known, some unknown. It was also a gift to me, as I had no idea what these artists were going to make me. The result was more than I could have wished for. All of the tracks are totally different from each other and super fresh, which is what I wanted and keeps with the theme of the night. Diversity and change are always welcome.” Heidi on The Jackathon 2011. (soundcloud.comHeidi Presents Jackathon Jams will get started with a mini-compilation, Da Remixes, featuring reworks of the exclusive tracks from the Jackathon mix by Deniz Kurtel, Eats Everything, and Richy Ahmed.

[The Scoop] Jamie Jones Readies New Album for June Release

[The Scoop] Jamie Jones is set to release a new album in June, according to Resident Advisor.  The album won’t be the debut platform for all its tracks, as works such as “Paradise,” which has already received play at parties, will reportedly be included. The album, titled Tracks from the Crypt, is slated to come out on Crosstown Rebels, following in the footsteps of his full-length, 2009 debut Don’t You Remember the Future.  Given the Hot Creation boss’s track record (literally and figuratively), there’s no doubt that you should be ecstatic for this come summertime.

[News] Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) – Movement 2012 Phase I

[News] Sanctioned and Financially Supported by the City of Detroit…

MAY 26-28, 2012

Purchase Tickets Here

DEMF p. 1

Detroit is the birthplace of techno. Unless you live under a rock you know that or you’ve probably heard somebody say that. Somebody at a party probably said it like this, “dude, techno isn’t from Europe, it’s from Detroit.” That guy was right. I was still sitting in the sandbox when the first World Party happened in Detroit. That was in ’94. Now I’m much older. I’ve left the sandbox and traded in my digging sticks for mouse clicks. I was also into Lego’s, now I’m into techno. As a music blogger, I like to think that writing about music consummates the years of formidable education, the countless shows, the four different student loans (that I’m still paying off), all the molly we ate and my double minor in writing quite nicely. My awesome parents put me through an awesome college. Now I’m using what I learned about writing in college to talk about music that inspires me. Electronic music is a lifestyle, and currently at the forefront of that lifestyle is DEMF. If you want to know more about DEMF Wikipedia it. There’s a lot of information, more than I’m going to go into.

Since the ’94 World Party, Carl Craig, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson have each come and gone. Neither of them were able to sustain control of the festival which has since it’s official launch in 2000 undergone multiple venue, name changes and taglines. Call it Movement, call it “DEMF,” call it Detroit Electronic Music Festival (it was even called ‘Fuse-In Detroit’ in 05 when it was being run by Kevin Saunderson) – this is the best value, progressive, electronic music festival in the U.S. Like couture is to fashion that’s what DEMF is to dance music. Musicis4lovers and I will be keeping things up to date over the next few months as they develop. Here’s phase one of the lineup:

[News] Simon Cowell Set to Launch TV Talent Show to ‘Find the World’s Greatest DJs’

[News] We don’t do too many News pieces on this site, but every now and then, I come across something that needs to be brought to light and shared with everyone. Today, that bit of information comes from NME.com and from the massive amount of twitter rants that took over my feed this morning, stating that Simon Cowell, from such television garbage as American Idol, The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and more, is set to launch a new TV talent show to “find the world’s greatest DJs”. The show will be co-produced by his company SyCo (quite appropriately named) and with Overbrook, owned by Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.

So… what they are telling us is that Will Smith and Syco will be telling the world who the greatest DJs in the world are? I think this is a great idea. Inevitably, the greatest DJ will surely play Justin Bieber, be from the Jersey Shore, spray champagne on themselves, the equipment and the audience, and best of all, their set will be 3 minutes before they take commercial break to “vote”. I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I can’t wait.. I actually don’t watch TV so I’ll look to my twitter feed and viral videos on facebook for updates on this one.

Good luck Simon, (you Syco), & The Fresh Prince Family. Much <3

[News] Made Events Announces “We Won’t Be Hosting Sunday School in Miami This Year”

[News] This morning, I read a sad twitter message from ResidentAdvisor.net, announcing that Made Events, the team responsible for the famed “Sunday School” party, will not be hosting their iconic event this year. For many of us, “Sunday School”, formerly known as “Sunday School for Degenerates”, was the celebratory end to a long week of partying and music. Below is the official statement made by Made Events:

We’ve been very fortunate to be able to support many amazing artists over the last 6 years at Sunday School in Miami. From the first few years at Pawn Shop, the 24-hour party

morphed into a global techno mecca at Ice Palace for our 36-hour marathons. However, we won’t be hosting Sunday School in Miami this year as we continue to focus our efforts on the Electric Zoo Festival in New York.

Sad news huh? Well, I think the void created by the absence of “Sunday School” will be quickly filled by another party attempting to bring the same vibe and energy to the underground music lovers. Rumors are already spreading about parties that are looking to resume where “Sunday School” left off. There is no word yet as to whether Made Events will be returning with their party next year, but as for now, school is out for Miami this year.
