Interview with Kuroten

Tell us a bit about your mix…
This mix is a bit of a different approach from my usual mixes in that usually I try to create a progression of energy by starting off slow and finishing hard; However, this mix concentrates on what would be the last hour of my set in which I change the direction of the energy to create more a more emotional ending. Also, this mix, like all of my other ones, is a live, one-shot recording.

How long have you been producing/DJing?
This will be my 10th year of DJing and producing.

Who are some of your biggest influences, past and present?
There are almost too many to mention, but if I have to choose 2 particularly, I would have to say deadmau5. He was the reason I got into production and Djing in the first place. These days I would have to say that Township Rebellion hugely influences the music I play and produce. They have an incredible ability to tell a unique story with every release.

How would you describe your style?
My style is definitely progressive and melodic and flits between tech house and techno. I’m completely addicted to dark, driving and groovy basslines with thick overtones of sharp and emotional leads.

What can we expect from Kuroten in the next year?
You can definitely expect a flurry of releases with a couple of well known Asia based labels as well as releases with European labels. Next year will also see a shift in focus towards on performances in Europe etc.
