Interview with Matchy & Bott

How did you first get introduced to underground dance music? What is the most challenging part of becoming a full-time producer and touring artist?
Both our childhoods were strongly influenced by electronic music.

Yannik: My parents used to party to electronic music, i guess therefore my passion for electronic music is sort of a heritage from my dad.
Martin: I used to record a lot of electronic music from the radio on tapes and then one night, still underaged, partied at a club called room 106 (unfortunately closed for years). It was extraordinary and a formative experience, which started my love for Techno.

What has been the most exciting turning point of your career so far?
It’s difficult to say that there has been one specific exciting turning point. The first one has been our first EP on Katermukke, which pretty much started our career as Matchy & Bott. Soon later Suara already followed and further releases.  You will always have to rethink your music/productions and reset your goals in order to take new turning points.

Where is your home base? If someone were visiting there for the first time, what clubs and/or parties and/or restaurants would they want to check out?
We’re from Darmstadt and Mainz but our home base for djing is definitely Frankfurt, where we play different residencies. Atelier or Tanzhaus West are definitely clubs to check out. The whole neighborhood around the central station in Frankfurt has also become very attractive for young people with several bars or just hang out at the Main river with a beer in our hand on a sunny day.

What advice would you give to an aspiring producer?
Work hard and do what you love. Music is an never ending story- you never complete training. Even after years of producing you still learn new tricks and facets.

What’s on the horizon for Matchy & Bott in 2017?
We will spend a lot more time in the studio in the next couple of months to advance our sound more in the direction of Techno, melodic techno/progressive house.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music?
Meeting friends, good food and drinks but also art and design related stuff.

What are some touristy things you do while playing in a foreign city?
If we have some free time before or after gigs, we quite enjoy exploring different places, whether it’s some sight seeing, cool bars or good food.

touring the whole world
