Paint It Black, out now on Guy Gerber’s always excellent Supplement Facts, falls directly in step with H Foundation’s dark, grimy, techno podcast series “Pitch Black.”  Collaborating here with David Durango, they make a perfect match, especially with their seasoned backgrounds in the grittiest of house, acid house, dub and techno. Together, their maturity, experience and curated tastes have allowed them to create a classic and timeless-sounding EP, but with a supremely fresh heaviness.

Surface is a no frills, driving nu-deep house track. Light and warm synths create an addictive mini melody, giving the heavy track a really nice, approachable front. The crisp, layered hi hats and heavy, shaking bassline against these classic-sounding elements give the track perfect balance and will keep a lovely equilibrium on the dancefloor.

Canvas’s strengths lie in its patient development, as elements cascade in and out of the soundscape’s frame. Again, an impressive, yet simple, bassline pushes the track forward and is balanced out by several layers of acid-tinged synths and soft-focused shakers and claps.

H Foundation always exceeds creative expectation, and the wonderful match with David Durango makes Paint It Black a superb collaborative exploration of sound.
