Peruvian mover-and-shaker, Paul Trelles, has been playing house music in Lima for over 10 years. Paul’s young energy and ambitious persona has landed him a residency at Bizarro in Lima and opening for many quality artists coming through town–most recently Mihai Popopviciu at Bizarro and a Cocoon Showcase at Creamfileds with Chris Liebing, Dubfire, and Matthias Kaden.
We’re excited to add some South American flava to our Hometown Heroes series with budding track selector Paul Trelles.
Interview with Paul Trelles
How did you initially get into DJing and house music? Do you recall a specific moment of inspiration or was it an evolution?
I remember the exact moment I decided to play: it was a party with Sasha in 2003 and he dropped this track called ‘Junkie XL & Sasha – Breezer’ and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing; this was my first rave, too. After that I started learning all about house music and the local scene.
What’s the scene like in Lima? How is Lima unique compared to the rest of the world?
The scene here in Lima is great and it’s always evolving. We have a bunch of parties every month with lot of great DJs. I think it’s one of the best places to play in South America. I would say the scene here is unique because of the people involved. The vibe and the fun we have at parties here is amazing!
Do you have any residencies? What parties/clubs in Lima would you recommend?
I have a residency in Bizarro, a club located in Miraflores, a very cool place to check out in Lima. I have had lots of cool gigs there and met many people, too. It’s a very special place for me and talking about parties here in Lima. You can’t miss any party from LOOP-PERU–they are in charge of the rave scene in Lima.
What’s on the horizon for you the remainder of 2015 and beyond?
I’m currently into music production and probably will tour around South America next year.
What’s one track that’s lighting up dance floors for you right now?
REda daRE – Dualizm
Tell us about your mix…
I was gonna drop a club mix but something funny happened: my cat walked on my computer and crashed ableton (I didn’t save the project), so I started a new one at 3:00 AM today.
