Lovecast Episode 034 – Djuma Soundsystem

Berlin-based booking agency WILDE is marking ten years on the map with a world tour, a compilation album, and the launch of a new label (whew!). Patricia Weil founded the agency after experiencing the booking-business firsthand while touring with ex-boyfriend Sven Väth. Inherently understanding the needs of a touring DJ, she now represents some of the best and brightest of today, including Audiofly, DJ T., Noir and Tube & Berger. The tour will next see an agency take over of Room 2 at Fabric on January 25th.

Wilde Liebe, or Wild Love, is a 16-track treat compiled by artists on the agency’s respectable roster. Described as being “as diverse as it is cohesive,” it includes new productions from Djuma Soundsystem, Daniel Wilde, Atapy, Christian Prommer, Tim Xavier, Tiefschwarz, Ian Pooley and many more. With a release date set for later this month, it officially inaugurates the agency’s imprint, on which they plan to put out an EP quarterly.

In advance of the album’s release, and for our exclusive enjoyment, Danish DJ and producer Djuma Soundsystem has provided the next mix for our Lovecast series, and it’s destined to delight. With a track on Richie Hawtin’s 2013 ENTER.IBIZA Compilation, a forthcoming EP for Steve Bug’s Audiomatique, and a recent feature in DJ Mag Latin America as their DJ of the Month, this one is coming in piping hot!

His production for Audiomatique, ‘Your Deep Is Not My Deep,’ a collaboration with Aki Berken and Lazarusman, is “a statement of individuality. Perhaps a reaction to the formulaic tracks clogging up some parts of the scene.” Preach! It’s a steady groove, understated and infectious, with trippy, tribal undertones. ‘Chick,’ his contribution to the WILDE Compilation, is a fresh house number with warm pad progressions, a funky bassline and bursts of enticing electronic explosions.

When asked about his Lovecast he said, “This mix is mainly new promo stuff, but I also fit in a few of my faves from the year that just passed, as well as an edit I made, and of course the new track itself. As the track’s pretty emo, I wanted to make a deeper mix to go with it, rather than a peak time set. I was doing a night at Soma, my favorite club in Goa, India (where I had my residency last year), and I made an extra sunset session there so I could record this set in a beautiful outdoor space next to the water. I hope you have the patience to bare with me through the whole hour and forty minutes, as this is a classical “DJ journey” – like we used to do it back in the day! 😉 ”

Enjoy this dreamy journey, Lovers. We have a feeling his deep will be your deep, after all.
