The rise and rise of David Scuba, a label partner in Superfreq Records, continues apace here with a great new EP that once again shows him to be in fine form in 2013. Included are two originals and remixes from both Joint Custody and Jonni Darko. As well as co-running this label, DJing at Superfreq events and remixing the likes of Detroit Grand Pubahs, David has previously A&Red for labels like Timeless Grooves and his experience and passion come through in crystal clear form through his unique production style. The standout opener here Turbo Slutts is a slippery, snaking bit of deep tech funk with real attitude in its percussion as well as plenty of shadowy, moody vibes in the ambiance created by whispering voices and sooty pads. Its perfect backroom, late night music for freaks.

The first remix is from Matt Dillon and Joe Morgan aka Joint Custody, who have released on Superfreq a couple of times already this year. Their version ditches the vocals and gets even more psychedelic and weird as it trudges through a deserted late night landscape. Adult film producer and performer, foodie and techno freak Jonni Darko then sets to work on stripping back some of the detail to make his version into a slinky and sleek tech house groove that surges on like a frictionless train. Using Ableton, Virus, Machine, and lots a secret VSTs Scuba then closes out the EP with Schnizz, a more playful track with a kinked rhythm, hollowed out percussion and curious little alien sounds that draw you right into the centre of the track. David Scuba is fast becoming an essential producer of darkened club beats that really standout, as this EP testifies in spades.
