Late last night Dev Hynes, better known as Blood Orange, dropped a terrific new tune on the world via music video. ‘Chamakay’ is the sublime first single from Hynes’ forthcoming album Cupid Deluxe. Featuring Caroline Polachek of Chairlift on vibrant vocals, the song has a fervent feel and is flush with island vibes. Shot in his mother’s hometown of Guyana and directed by Kindness (Adam Bainbridge), the video showcases the artist dancing around town, the song itself a sonic embodiment of the sunset seen. Says Hynes, “I decided to visit Georgetown, Guyana for the first time the town where my mother is from. She, herself has not been back for 30 years, 3 years before I was born. I tracked down family members, including my 92 year old grandfather, who I had never met before. In this video you will see our first ever meeting.” Watch below.
