Audiojack — These Days EP (Gruuv Records)

Terri Harel September 10, 2012 Deep House, House, New Release 2 Comments

[Release] Audiojack. What to say? This duo barely ever disappoints and this latest release on their own lable, Gruuv, lives up to those high standards of musical composition.  These Days is classic and housey, yet new-wave deep and a dance floor requirement.  The heavy bells, the sub-bass, the spoken word vocals, supplied by the talented Kevin Knapp — the aggregated result is a diverse EP that demonstrates Audiojack’s range, flexibility, and creativity.

Title track “These Days” gets three cuts: the original, Dirtybirder Sacha Robotti’s remix and Jimmy Edgar’s interpretation.  Each take is stylistically unique, making the A-side a versatile addition to any record box collection.  The B-side is equally eclectic, with the highlight being Audiojack’s rework/cover of the 1992 classic “Plastic Dreams,” by Jaydee.

The other track on the b-side, “Night Watch,” is trendy, with a wonky, plucked bass line that always works well on the dance floor.

Although Gruuv has had a brief hiatus due to design reworking and Audiojack’s busy tour schedule, they couldn’t have come back any better than this EP — a truly excellent release with that coveted pure underground sound.
